DESCRIPTION: This was the second site that started getting me interested in this issue. Right behind this tree is a long hedge of some deciduous plants that used to reach all the way across the sidewalk. That's been trimmed since, but still reaches out too far. Obviously the big pine has been trimmed as well, though not nearly enough. The problem with trimming big pines planted too close to sidewalks is that they want to be, well, pine tree shaped. The eye expects that. So you either end up with the bald trunk look or the "needs a haircut really bad" look, which usually ends up as the "needs a haircut really bad and *still* blocks the sidewalk" look.
