DESCRIPTION: This is one of two sites that first got me interested in the Park Ridge sidewalk plant issue, probably because I used to walk past it a lot. There are so many trees in front of this house, well-trimmed always, but planted so close to the sidewalk. That's what fascinated me: there was a whole process, starting with putting tiny trees so close to the walk, then many years of careful trimming. And in all that time, the owners apparently didn't think about the sidewalk they were crowding out, and no one from the city bothered them. Even the walk to the front door is crowded--I don't know whether they never use that entrance, or what. (At another location I'm aware of they surely go in and out another way, as the space between similar trees can't be even a foot wide.) This house is also a pain to walk by after any precipation because, as you can probably imagine by looking, big pools of water/slush/ice accumulate on the sidewalk. Combined with the trees, it's best just to go around it all in the street under those circumstances.
